Looking for an easy and fun way to shed those few extra post-Thanksgiving pounds? How about hiking? It’s a great way to beat the winter blues, get outside after those longggg WFH days, and get your heart-rate up!

We asked our Trident tribe their favorite trails in the San Diego area. Take a look at our list, then let us know if you try any of our favs out!

Mission Trails

Mission Trails is great open space not far from downtown San Diego with over 50 trails for hiking, biking, and more! With its 60+ miles of hiking, mountain biking (ranging in difficulty from easy up to hard), rock climbing opportunities, and camping areas, this park truly has something for everyone.

Rancho Penasquitos Adobe Loop

This trail is marked as “easy” and is dog friendly! The 3.2 mile loop is well traveled and includes some nice water features to enjoy along the way. Great for getting your steps in and for getting the pup out for some play time.

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

If you’re a nature lover, this one’s for you! Torrey Pines is full of amazing trees, plants, and animals, sometimes hard to come by in this largely urban area. With hikes as short as 0.8 mi up to almost 7 miles, Torrey Pines has it all.

Three Sisters Fall Trail

This out and back trail is for those up for a challenge. At 4.1 miles with some intense mountain climbing and rock traversing, Three Sisters is not for the faint of heart. That being said, this trail is certainly a fun workout!

Potato Chip Rock

This out and back trail is for those up for a challenge. At 4.1 miles with some intense mountain climbing and rock traversing, Three Sisters is not for the faint of heart. That being said, this trail is certainly a fun workout!

Cabrillo National Monument

Cabrillo National Monument is home to two easy trails ( 1 and 2 miles prospectively). Both are great for all skill and age levels, with wonderful scenery and pretty wildflowers, as well as a historical landmark of the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States.

Sweetwater River Loop

Sweetwater River Loop Trail is a 7.4 mile moderate difficulty loop trail. Certainly a great trail for those working to increase their skills and endurance.

Mother Miguel Mountain/ Rock House Trails

Mother Miguel Mountain is a moderate level 4.4 mile trail home to a great lake. With trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking, and views all the way to Mexico, Coronado, and Downtown San Diego, Mother Miguel is not one to miss!

Big Laguna Trail

Big Laguna is a nice long, easy trail. At 13.3 miles this trail is good for getting the dog out for a nice long walk with some nice views (including a lake).

Florida Canyon Trail

Florida Canyon is an easy 2.2 mile trail very close to the city center. Great for nature walks and getting out of the hustle and bustle for a quick hike.
